Zambia was a one-party state from 1972 to 1991, ruled by the United National Independence Party which was the sole legal party. Between 1991 and 2002, Zambia was governed by the social democratic Movement for Multi-Party Democracy and its president Frederick Chiluba. This period saw marked social-economic growth in Zambia in addition to the increased decentralisation of government. The third president of Zambia was Levy Mwanawasa who presided over the country from 2002 to his death in 2008. It was Mwanawasa’s ambition to rid Zambia of corruption and to raise the standards of living in the country. Following Mwanawasa, Rupiah Banda became president until 2011 when he lost the re-election to Michael Sata.

The World Bank has named Zambia as one of the world’s fastest economically reforming countries and COMESA (the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) has its headquarters in Zambia’s capital of Lusaka. Now Zambia is in a wonderful position to move forward economically, the gu10 led bulb 10 is shining on the country.
